Sharing an anecdote of his first meeting with Sachin, Iyer said, “When I was 14, Sachin sir came to motivate us. It was his first meeting with me. But my first talk with him was during the Ranji Trophy final. This conversation between us was not for a long time, but during this time I talked to him about the technique and the change in stance during the match.”

Iyer has impressed everyone with his performance in ODI cricket in 2022. He has scored 1,537 runs in 39 ODIs at an average of 48.03 and a strike rate of 96. During this, he has scored 14 half centuries and 2 centuries.
Iyer will start 2023 with the 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, which is going to start from January 10 in Guwahati.
