All the latest updates from CSK Camp in IPL-2020
Just when everyone was excited for the IPL to begin comes shocking news from the CSK camp which not only puts this editions IPL at risk but also jeopardizes all the plans for IPL 2020. Many members from CSK have tested positive. Recent reports suggest that the CSK members who have tested include a few Indian players as well as many support staff.
CSK were one of the first teams to land in UAE and were all set to start their training yesterday. However, with the new development, they have decided to extend the quarantine period. CSK did have a five-day training camp which included the likes of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Piyush Chawla and Shardul Thakur.
According to the Indian Express, apart from the India seamer, who plays in the shorter formats, a few net bowlers, some members of the digital/social media team and a CSK team official, to have tested positive.
It is learnt that following the latest development, the team has deferred its training until September 1. Those who have tested positive will self-isolate for 14 days outside the bio-bubble. The IPL quarantine protocol for COVID-19 positive individuals says: “This will follow the Government policy and is currently 14 days. During the 14-day quarantine, the individual will be tested on Day 10, Day 13 and Day 14.” It was announced today that The likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Indian seamer Deepak Chahar have also been tested positive.
Suresh Raina to miss IPL 2020:
Amidst this chaos, Suresh Raina is all set to return home due to personal reasons and won’t be available for CSK for the entire season. As mentioned earlier, he too was a part of the five-day training camp which took place in Chennai. The official handle of CSK released a statement regarding this “Suresh Raina has returned to India for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of the IPL season. Chennai Super Kings offers complete support to Suresh and his family during this time”

This comes as a big blow for CSK as Raina has been one of their best players. He is the first player to play 100 matches for CSK and has been their most consistent batsman. He has scored 4527 runs from 164 IPL games for the franchise. Raina is also the second-highest scorer in IPL history with 5368 runs, only behind Virat Kohli’s tally of 5412, and has taken the most catches (102) in the tournament history.
