Many questions have been raised over Virat Kohli’s captaincy in the ICC tournaments after the loss against New Zealand in the WTC final . The Indian captain, Virat Kohli is yet to win a ICC Tournament as captain.  Virat Kohli has captained India in three ICC tournaments. In 2017 Champions Trophy they lost to Pakistan in the finals. In 2019 ICC men’s World Cup , Indian Team was crushed by New Zealand in the semi final.

Salman Butt has recently made some fame from his YouTube Channel

Salman Butt said, “Personally, I feel Rohit Sharma is a better captain (than Virat Kohli). I had observed his captaincy in depth during the Asia Cup (2018). The way he operated as stand-in captain, he looked very natural. Coming back to Virat Kohli, India were on top for five years but sadly couldn’t win the biggest match of all, so people are bound to raise questions.”

According to the statement given by the former Pakistani opener, Salman Butt, the history will remember only those captain who have won an ICC event. Salman Butt also stated that luck also plays its part but it’s not working for Virat Kohli as he pointed towards the 2017 Champions Trophy final no ball.

“You can be a very good captain but if you don’t win any title, masses won’t remember you. May be you are a good captain and have good plans but your bowler may not be able to execute it. So luck has to be on your side as well. People only remember those who win tournaments. Sometimes you may not be a great captain but your team may be very good and you may end up winning a major title. So that does not define a captain but for the world, of course, a good captain is one who has won big events”, Salman Butt added.

Virat Kohli has been under pressure after the loss to NZ in yet another ICC Finals

Salman Butt said that he has analyzed Virat Kohli’s captaincy, which should be subtle one but Virat is over-aggressive that sometimes hits India back..  This over-aggression can be misinterpreted when team doesn’t win. Salman Butt added that captain with cool mind have more chances of winning pressure games. According to Salman Butt, Virat Kohli is full of gestures.

“Virat Kohli has not won any ICC title neither has he won the IPL. He is a top-class cricketer, has excellent body language and is aggressive. His energy level is at a different level, and it is evident that he wants to give his best every time he steps out in the middle. But captains should be subtle and not fiery. We kept hearing during the WTC final, that it is a battle between fire (Virat Kohli) and ice (Kane Williamson). Most top-class captains who have won titles were cool or gesture-less at crunch moments. Virat Kohli is a man full of gestures. Had he won, he would have been praised no end.

Virat Kohli added aggregate of 57 runs in both the innings failing where it mattered the most as he just needed India to stay for at least next 20 Overs in order to ensure at least a draw. But as the result is on the contrasting side so that have put a lot of pressure on his captaincy. Even in 2019 World Cup semi-final Virat was out in the initial overs, adding more on it 2017 Champions Trophy was also such instance. Indian Cricket Team will begin their next WTC cycle from August 4 against England in England.
