The excitement of the IPL 2025 auction has faded for many Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans, and unfortunately, it’s due to yet another disappointing strategy from the team management. Year after year, Banglore has failed to build a balanced squad that can genuinely compete for the coveted IPL trophy, and this season is no exception.

One of the most glaring mistakes came when the management hesitated to secure KL Rahul, a player who could have rejuvenated RCB’s batting lineup. Stopping the bidding at ₹14 crore, the management missed the opportunity to invest ₹20 crore in Rahul, a talent that could have seamlessly fit alongside marquee player Virat Kohli as a solid opening partner.

Instead, RCB opted for Rajat Patidar, a competent batsman, but not on par with the explosive skills of Rahul.

While RCB managed to nab Phil Salt, the decision to exchange Will Jacks for Tim David and Liam Livingstone raises eyebrows. Both David and Livingstone have proven their finishing capabilities, but there are no guarantees they will replicate past performances in an RCB jersey. This uncertainty leaves fans and analysts skeptical about the team’s plans for the crucial death overs.

In the bowling department, the release of Mohammed Siraj was a tough pill to swallow, yet Bangalore slightly salvaged their strategy by bringing in Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

While an experienced bowler, the choice of Josh Hazlewood, with his aging form, seems questionable for a long-term investment. RCB should have leaned towards younger talents to solidify their bowling line-up over the next few years.

The spin department reflects similar misjudgments. Acquiring Krunal Pandya seems like an afterthought, especially when RCB had the option to bid for genuine spinners like Yuzvendra Chahal. Opting for lesser-known quantities like Swapnil and Suyash Sharma is perplexing and indicates a lack of foresight in team-building.
