The highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is being took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at the prestigious Abady Al-Johar Arena. Over two exciting days, the 10 IPL teams will have a unique opportunity to strategically revamp their squads, building a core for the next three seasons. This auction, held once every three years, allows teams to refresh their rosters and pursue fresh talent.
With a total of 204 slots available, including 70 for international players, teams are presented with an impressive pool of 577 cricketers to choose from. This includes 367 Indian players and 210 overseas contenders. The bidding frenzy is expected to draw significant attention, as the minimum base price for a player starts at ₹30 lakh and can go as high as ₹2 crore.
In a historic move, the Lucknow Super Giants made headlines by acquiring Rishabh Pant for a staggering ₹27 crore, marking him as the most expensive player in IPL history. Not far behind, the Punjab Kings splashed ₹26.75 crore to secure Shreyas Iyer, a record that lasted only briefly. These signings highlight the fierce competition among teams to secure marquee players.
Additionally, the IPL 2025 auction sees the emergence of young talent, with 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Bihar becoming the youngest cricketer ever picked at the auction. Rajasthan Royals bid him for ₹1.1 crore, showcasing the IPL’s commitment to nurturing future stars.
