Former India head coach Ravi Shastri said that some of the country’s key bowlers have become permanent residents of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The former coach did not name anyone, but he was pointing towards Chennai Super Kings fast bowler Deepak Chahar.

He has been injured three times in the last eight months. He was declared fit by the sports science and medical team headed by Nitin Patel

In the match against Mumbai Indians, Deepak Chahar bowled just one over. After this he looked unfit and went out of the field limping, Chahar is battling a hamstring injury. Apart from him, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and the famous Krishna have undergone surgery for waist fractures.

Shastri said- In the last three or four years, there are many permanent residents of NCA. They can go there anytime which is not a good thing. Some players don’t even play all formats, but can’t even bowl four overs in four consecutive T20I matches. Then why all these go to NCA, after three matches, they return to NCA. 

Chahar did not play 2022 IPL due to injury

Earlier Deepak Chahar could not play 2022 IPL due to back injury. Due to injury, he did not even become a part of Team India for several months in 2022. Deepak Chahar was not selected due to injury in T20I World Cup as well. However, he kept joining the team from time to time and then kept being out of the team. Chennai has not yet announced Deepak’s complete ouster. It remains to be seen when he will make a comeback.

Former Chennai Super Kings veteran Suresh Raina said after the match against Mumbai – It seems that Deepak will be out of the next four-five matches. He seems to have picked up a hamstring injury again and is looking uncomfortable.

Chennai now has to travel a lot to play away matches, due to which Deepak’s problems may increase further. Deepak Chahar has played 66 matches in IPL and has taken 59 wickets. He is one of the highest wicket takers in powerplay.
