After Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of IPL 2020. This comes as a big loss for the Delhi Capitals as he was cruical in their plans this season. Ishant’s departure from the tournament would be a big blow for the franchise as they had already lost leg-spinner Amit Mishra previously due to injury as mentioned earlier. Delhi Capitals also saw wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant picking up an injury the past week, due to which he had to sit out in the all-important clash against Mumbai Indians on Sunday.

“Delhi Capitals fast bowler Ishant Sharma experienced an acute episode of left rib cage pain while bowling at a team training session on 7 October 2020 in Dubai. Subsequent investigations revealed that he sustained a left internal oblique muscle tear,” a statement from the franchise said. This injury will unfortunately rule him out of the remainder of the Dream11 Indian Premier League 2020. Everyone at Delhi Capitals wishes Ishant a speedy recovery,” the statement added. Ishant Sharma was had a very good season for DC in IPL 2019 and took a lot of wickets for them upfront in the first 6 overs of many games. Delhi Capitals would be looking for a replacement for Ishant Sharma.

Ishant, 32, has played only one match for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020 so far. He completed his quota of four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Abu Dhabi. Ishant remained wicketless in the match. Ishant has represented India in 97 Tests, 80 ODIs and 14 T20Is and is likely to spearhead India’s pace attack during Test matches in Australia. However, Ishant’s participation in Austrlia tour later this year will now depend on how his fitness. Meanwhile, Delhi skipper Shreyas Iyer also announced that wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is likely to remain out of action for around a week due to injury. Earlier, Delhi Capitals star spinner R Ashwin had also suffered a shoulder sprain, but he has recovered now. DC have used the likes of Avesh Khan, Mohit Sharma and more recently Harshal Patel to fill Ishant’s void in the XI with neither of them managing to nail their spot. However, DC have still made a bright start to their campaign, winning five out of their seven games so far, sharing the top spot with Mumbai Indians in the first half of IPL 2020.
