In a recent statement, Australian national selector George Bailey confirmed that David Warner will not be considered for the squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The decision comes after Warner announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket following the T20 World Cup 2024.

Warner’s last match for Australia was against India, where the Mitchell Marsh-led side lost by 24 runs. Unfortunately, Australia failed to qualify for the semi-final stage of the tournament, bringing an end to Warner’s illustrious international career.

Despite this, Warner had expressed interest in playing in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, but George Bailey has confirmed that he will not be selected.

Warner’s retirement marked the end of an era for Australian cricket, as he was one of the country’s most successful and destructive batsmen across all three formats. His legacy is set to continue to grow as his achievements are reflected upon in years to come.

George Bailey praised Warner’s incredible career, saying, “Our understanding is that David is retired, and he should be commended on what has been an incredible career across all three formats.” He also acknowledged that Warner’s legacy will only continue to grow as time passes.

As Australia looks to transition to new players, Bailey believes that players like Jake Frazer-McGurk have given a strong audition as potential successors to Warner. The 37-year-old southpaw retired from Tests and ODIs earlier this year after a successful career that included winning the ODI World Cup 2023.

George Bailey’s comments suggest that Warner’s retirement is final, but his legacy will undoubtedly continue to be celebrated for years to come.
