Indian batting all-rounder Ashutosh Sharma has signed for Hampshire for the upcoming One-Day Cup 2026, which begins on July 21. The 27-year-old will strengthen Hampshire’s squad as the county side aims to improve on last season’s runner-up finish in the competition.
Ashutosh, who currently represents Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is regarded as one of India’s most exciting middle-order power-hitters and will now get an opportunity to showcase his talent in English domestic cricket.
Hampshire Excited About New Signing
Hampshire Director of Cricket Giles White welcomed the signing and praised Ashutosh’s recent performances.
White said the club was delighted to bring in a player with significant potential and valuable experience from high-level competitions such as the IPL. He added that Hampshire hopes Ashutosh can make an immediate impact as the team looks to go one step further after finishing as runners-up in last year’s One-Day Cup.
IPL Success Boosts Reputation
Ashutosh has built a strong reputation through his performances in the IPL.
After making his IPL debut with Punjab Kings, he moved to Delhi Capitals, where he has become known for his explosive batting lower down the order.
Across the 2025 and 2026 IPL seasons, he scored 350 runs at an impressive strike rate of 170, regularly providing quick runs during the closing stages of innings.
His fearless approach and ability to clear the boundary have made him one of the most exciting finishers in Indian domestic cricket.
Record-Holding T20 Batter
Ashutosh also holds a remarkable record in Indian cricket.
He owns the record for the fastest fifty by an Indian batter in men’s T20 cricket, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls.
The achievement highlighted his extraordinary power-hitting ability and helped establish his reputation as one of the country’s most dangerous short-format batters.

Solid List A Experience
While he is best known for his T20 exploits, Ashutosh also brings useful experience in the 50-over format.
In 21 List A matches, he has scored 458 runs and taken six wickets, demonstrating his value as a batting all-rounder.
His ability to contribute with both bat and ball provides Hampshire with additional flexibility during the tournament.
Familiar with English Conditions
The move will not be Ashutosh’s first experience of playing cricket in England.
He has previously represented Middlesex Titans in 2017 and later played for Gravesend during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
In 2025, he made headlines while playing for Wigan in the Liverpool League when he scored a rapid century just hours after arriving in the country.
Those experiences should help him adapt quickly to English conditions and contribute immediately for Hampshire.
Hampshire Begin Campaign Against Yorkshire
Hampshire will start their 2026 One-Day Cup campaign against Yorkshire at Scarborough on Tuesday.
After narrowly missing out on the title last season, the club will hope that additions such as Ashutosh Sharma can provide the extra firepower needed to challenge for the trophy.
For Ashutosh, the tournament offers another valuable opportunity to gain overseas experience and further strengthen his growing reputation in white-ball cricket.
