During the ongoing second Test match Ind vs Eng, cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar had to abruptly leave his commentary duties in Visakhapatnam due to the passing of his mother-in-law, Pushpa Mehrotra. The former Indian cricketer, who has been an influential figure in the sport, immediately flew to Kanpur to be by his wife Marshneil Gavaskar’s side and support his grieving family.

Gavaskar, renowned for his exceptional cricketing career that spanned 125 Tests and over 10,000 runs, has seamlessly transitioned into various roles within cricket administration post-retirement. His commitment to the sport was further exemplified by his brief stint as the interim BCCI president, showcasing his enduring passion for the game.

This unfortunate incident is not the first time Gavaskar has faced personal loss during a cricket assignment, as he lost his mother, Meena Gavaskar, in 2022. The revered figure, who played a significant role in shaping Gavaskar’s cricketing journey, passed away at the age of 95 due to age-related issues.

Despite the somber circumstances, the cricketing fraternity has rallied around Gavaskar, offering condolences and understanding during this challenging time. Meanwhile, the second Test match in Visakhapatnam between India and England continues, with India posting a score of 336 for six at Stumps on Day 1.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s remarkable innings, featuring 17 fours and five sixes, has been a standout performance for India. As he looks to convert his impressive knock into a double century on Day 2, the cricketing world sends its thoughts and prayers to Sunil Gavaskar and his family during this difficult period.
