The Punjab Kings have suffered a major setback ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). His wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out of the tournament.

England Bairstow has been away from international cricket for a long time due to injury. Punjab announced Bairstow’s ouster on social media on Saturday (March 25). In his place, Australian batsman Matthew Short has been included in the team.

Punjab Kings wrote on Twitter, “We regret to inform you that our Jonny Bairstow will not be a part of IPL this season due to his injury. We wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him in action next season. We are delighted to welcome Matthew Short to the team in his place.”

If we talk about Matthew Short, he was the Player of the Tournament in the last season of Big Bash League (BBL). He scored 458 runs in 14 matches at an average of 35.23 for the Adelaide Strikers. During this, a century and two half-centuries came out of from Short’s bat, his highest score is 100 not out. Apart from this, Short also took 11 wickets.

Short’s T20I career –

Short has scored 1409 runs in 64 innings of 67 T20I matches. During this, his average has been 23.88. He has scored one century and seven half-centuries, he has taken a total of 22 wickets in his name. The Punjab Kings team will play their first match in the 16th season of IPL against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 1.

Bairstow did not play in the T20I World Cup as well –

This is not the first time that Bairstow has been ruled out of a major tournament due to injury. Six months ago, Bairstow could not even play in the ICC T20I World Cup due to injury. Once again injury has troubled him. Bairstow was last injured in an accident while playing golf in Leeds.
