A team is as good as his coach. The legacy pf the team is not only due to the hard work of players but also to their supporting staff, who have played an important role in their team’s success.
Many coaches have led their teams to successful title winners over all these years. The greatest of them is Stephen Fleming, who has left a long legacy for the CSK franchise. Many others, including Tom Moody, Mahela Jayawardene, Gary Kirsten, and Daniel Vettori, have proved that a good coach makes their players see what they can become rather than what they are.
With a new IPL season awaiting in 2023, many franchises are looking to start afresh with a new set of coaches, supporting staff who can tutor them and guide them to improve their game quality. In this article, we’ll look at coaching staff of the all IPL franchises.
Chennai Super Kings
Head Coach: Stephen Fleming
Fleming has been appointed as the CSK coach since 2009 till the present day. He has been paid a salary of 3.5 crores.
Batting Coach: Michael Hussey
Hussey after stepping down as a player got appointed as the Batting coach and receives a salary of 3 crores.
Bowling Coach: Dwayne Bravo
CSK’S superstar and highest wicket-taker in IPL got appointed as CSK bowling coach post-retirement this year. Salary of 2.5 crores.
Other supporting staff members include Rajiv Kumar (field coach), Tommy Simsek (physio), and Greg King (physical trainer).
Delhi Capitals
Head Coach: Ricky Ponting
The former Australian captain no doubt one of the greatest cricketing brains in the world and Delhi Capitals have prospered under his guidance for a salary of 3.5 crores.
Bowling Coach: James Hopes
Ben Hopes receives a salary of 2.2 crores for his services to the DC side.
Batting Coach/ Assistant Coach: Shane Watson
Watson is an IPL superstar and he brings immense experience to the side, receiving a salary of 3.2 crores.
Other coaches include Biju George (fielding coach), Ajit Agarkar (assistant coach), Pravin Amre (assistant coach), and Sourav Ganguly (director of cricket).
Gujarat Titans
Head Coach: Ashish Nehra
The experienced Indian pacer is both the head coach and the pace bowling coach for the Titans. Salary of 3.5 Crores.
Batting Coach and Mentor: Gary Kirsten
Known for his legendary coaching skills Kirsten is a great coach and has coached several national and franchise teams in the world. He earns a salary of 2.5 crores.
Other coaches include Vikram Solanki ( Director of Cricket), Abdul Naim, Mithun Manhas and Narender Negi ( Assistant coaches), and Aasnish Kapoor ( Spin bowling coach and scout). Rohit Sawalkar ( Head physio), Gaurav Sharma ( Physio), Rajnikanth Sivagnanam( Strength & conditional coach) and Sandeep Raju (Performance analyst ).
Kolkata Knight Riders
Head coach: Chandrakant Pandit
He was newly appointed as KKR’s head coach post-departure of Brendon McCullum. His salary is 3.4 crores
Batting Coach/ Assistant coach: James Foster
KKR batting coach alongside being the team assistant coach too receives 2.4 crores as salary.
Bowling coach: Bharat Arun
Part of the Knight Riders for quite a few years now, Arun gets paid 2.4 crores as a salary.
Other coaches include Abhishek Nayar( Assistant coach), David Hussey ( Mentor), Omkar Salvi( Assistant Bowling coach), Ryan ten Doeschate ( fielding coach) and Chris Donaldson ( Strength & Conditioning coach)
Lucknow Super Giants
Mentor and Batting Coach: Gautam Gambhir
One of the most experienced and successful captains in the league, now leading his new franchise receives a remuneration of 3.5 crores.
Head Coach: Andy Flower
The overseas legend Heads the LSG coaching side and makes 2.5 Crores.
Bowling Coach: Andy Bichel
The Aussie star was part of the 2003 world cup winning squad and now coaches the lsg side at a salary of 1.5 crores.
Other coaches include Vijay Dahiya ( Assistant coach), Richard Halsall ( Fielding coach) and Warren Andrews ( Strength and Conditioning coach).
Mumbai Indians
Head Coach: Mark Boucher
He is newly appointed as MI’s head coach and this is his debut season as an IPL coach. His salary is 2.3 crores.
Batting Coach: Kieron Pollard
Salary- 3.8 Crores. The MI veteran even after retirement, would look to continue his services for the Indians as their coach.
Bowling Coach: Shane Bond
Part of the MI side for years now, Bond is the bowling head coach for MI at a salary of 3.5 Crores.
Other important support staff include Zaheer Khan ( Global Head of Cricket Development) and Mahela Jayawardene( Global Head of Performance). Others include James Pamment( fielding coach), Craig Govender( Physio) and Paul Chapman ( Strength & Conditioning coach).
Rajasthan Royals
Director of Cricket / Mentor / Head Coach: Kumar Sangakara
The Sri Lankan legend and the world’s 2nd most successful batter in cricket history, who else can be a better head coach, a legendary cricketing brain added with calmness is a perfect find for mentorship. His salary is 3.5 Crores.
Batting coach: Amol Majumdar
The RR batting coach though doesn’t need to toil much in the star-studded batting lineup and earns up to 2.2 crores as salary.
Bowling Coach: Lasith Malinga
The legendary T20 bowling spearhead is considered the greatest in the shorter format over a long period. Slinga Malinga makes 2.8 crores as a bowling coach.
Other staffs include Zubin Bharucha ( Development & performance director), Trevor Penney ( Assistant coach) and Dishant Yagnik ( Fielding coach).
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Head Coach: Sanjay Bangar
Previously part of the Indian cricket team, Bangar now coaches the Challengers for a salary of 3.2 crores.
Batting & Spin Coach: Sridharan Sriram
Part of the RCB unit for many years now receives a salary of 2.5 Crores.
Bowling coach: Adam Griffith
The RCB bowling coach gets a salary of 2.2 crores.
Other supporting staff include Mike Hesson( Director of Cricket), Malolan Rangarajan( Head of scouting & Fielding coach), Evan Speechly ( Head Physio) and Basu Shanker ( Strength & Conditioning coach).
Punjab Kings
Head Coach: Trevor Bayliss
After Anil Kumble stepped down as head coach, his assistant stepped into his shoes. Bayliss’ salary as of now is 4 crores.
Batting Coach: Wasim Jaffar
With a huge experience coaching the national side of Bangladesh and the domestic sides of Odisha. This is his second association with Punjab and he has a salary of 2.4 crores.
Bowling Coach: Charl Langeveldt
Newly appointed this year, the Protea had a salary of 2 crores.
Other staffs include Brad Haddin( Assistant coach) who replaced Johnty Rhodes and Andrew Leipus ( Team Physio).
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Head Coach: Brian Lara
Windies legend Brian Lara replaced Tom Moody this year as the SRH head coach, and now earns a salary of 4 crores.
Batting and Assistant coach: Simon Helmot
SRH provides Helmot with a salary of 2.3 crores.
Bowling Coach: Dale Steyn ( Fast) and Muttiah Muralitharan ( Spin)
The two legends of modern-day cricket, are probably the best coaches for pace and spin in the world, Muralitharan is also the Strategic coach for SRH. Steyn’s salary is 3 Crores while Murali receives a salary of 3.2 crores.
