Shreyas Iyer in red-ball cricket? Sounds interesting right! In the recent time ,we have seen countries adopting different teams for different formats of the game. But the selection should be based on the performance of the player in each format of the game. A player who performs well in home conditions as well as in  overseas condition should be given enough chances to prove him in every format of the game.

Replacement for the big names in the Indian test side should be available for the selectors at any given time.  We are talking about Shreyas Iyer. Shreyas Iyer can be a good number 4 or 5 batsman in the Indian test side if given enough chances.

Poor Pujara and Rahane helping Shreyas Iyer’s chances

Poor performances by Pujara and inconsistency shown by Ajinkya Rahane has let the team management to think about their replacement. Though, Hanuma Vihari and KL Rahul are there in the present squad but Rahul can be used only as opener in Test cricket and Hanuma Vihari has also been inconsistent in his performances.

In the current scenario, Pujara can be dropped from the team and Virat Kohli should promote himself   up the order at number three and Shreyas Iyer can definitely fit into the side at number 4.

Shreyas Iyer has shown good signs as a Test Match player in his short ODI Career

In the second case, if Ajinkya Rahane could be drop from the team then Shreyas Iyer can also replace him at the number 5.

The good thing about the Mumbaikar is that he has huge amount of Ranji Trophy experience and moreover the strike-rate on which he plays can be a boon for Indian middle-order. So probably someone like Virat Kohli can move up to 3 and Iyer can play at No.4.

Shreyas Iyer wants to cement his place in the test squad as well. He has been doing predominantly well for the Indian team in the white ball format and has almost fixed his spot at number four in the white-ball format. Shreyas Iyer has performed really well in his first class career. Shreyas Iyer has a average of 52 in first class cricket which is good enough for his call up in the Indian test team.

“Yes, I have always wanted to play Test cricket for India and my average in Ranji Trophy is pretty good to get selected. And I have been consistent throughout, so really looking forward to play in the Test team and cement my place there as well.” Shreyas Iyer said in an interview.

Now it’s time for the selectors to think about Shreyas Iyer in the Test Squad. Indian team has been doing quite good in the Overseas conditions but we have seen many collapses in the Indian team. To avoid such incidents in the coming future Shreyas Iyer can be the right choice for the selectors to look upon.

The next cycle of ICC World Test Championship begins on 4th August with tje series against England, after that Indian Cricket Team will be hosting the world champions New Zealand in their own den, that could be the best bet to try him out, if the results turn out to be fruitful then the away series against South Africa will be deciding factor of his Test Career. But with age on his side, one ca say it’s good to invest on someone like Shreyas Iyer.
