The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed its joint review meeting on the Indian Premier League (IPL), which was scheduled to take place in Mumbai on October 15, 2026. The meeting was expected to bring together IPL franchise owners, chief executives, broadcasters and representatives of 13 state associations hosting matches.
The gathering was scheduled for 6 pm at the Taj Santacruz in Mumbai. However, stakeholders received an official communication from the BCCI and IPL authorities on Tuesday informing them that the meeting had been postponed. No revised date or venue has been announced so far, leaving the meeting deferred indefinitely for the time being.
Prime Minister’s Felicitation Ceremony Prompts Change
One of the key reasons behind the postponement is a felicitation ceremony scheduled to be hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on October 15. The Prime Minister is expected to honour the Indian men’s and women’s teams for their performances at the recently concluded 20th Asian Games, alongside other medallists from the continental event.
Several senior BCCI officials are expected to attend the ceremony, making it difficult for them to participate in the Mumbai meeting as originally planned. The board also received postponement requests from various stakeholders, which further contributed to the decision.
In an email sent to the concerned parties on Tuesday evening, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the postponement and explained the circumstances behind it.
Saikia stated that BCCI officials would be required to attend the Prime Minister’s felicitation ceremony. He added that requests had also come from multiple stakeholders seeking a change in the meeting schedule.
The secretary said the decision had been taken to facilitate maximum in-person participation. He expressed regret over any inconvenience caused and thanked the stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation.
According to the communication, the revised date and venue will be shared in due course.
IPL 2027 Discussions Put on Hold
The joint meeting was expected to provide an opportunity for the BCCI, IPL franchises, broadcasters and host state associations to discuss important matters concerning the tournament’s future.
With the IPL preparing for its 2027 edition, the discussions were expected to cover organisational and operational issues involving the various stakeholders. However, the postponement means that these discussions will have to wait until the board announces a fresh schedule.
The meeting was particularly relevant as the 2027 season is set to mark the IPL’s 20th edition. Bringing franchise representatives, broadcasters and host associations together would allow the board to address their concerns and coordinate preparations for the upcoming tournament.
For now, stakeholders will have to await further communication from the BCCI regarding the next meeting date.

India Players to Travel to Delhi Before Final T20I
The postponement also coincides with a change in the Indian team’s travel plans during the ongoing T20I series against West Indies.
Following the fourth T20I in Hyderabad on Wednesday, October 14, the Indian players were initially expected to travel directly to Bengaluru. However, the scheduled felicitation ceremony in New Delhi means the team will now travel to the national capital on Thursday before proceeding to Bengaluru for the fifth and final T20I.
The series finale is scheduled for October 17, giving the players a revised travel itinerary ahead of the concluding match.
The felicitation ceremony has therefore affected both the BCCI’s administrative schedule and the Indian team’s movements. While the IPL stakeholders’ meeting remains postponed until further notice, the board is expected to communicate the revised arrangements once a new date and venue have been finalised.
