Temba Bavuma, the South Africa Test captain, is heading to India earlier than expected. He’s been named in the ‘A’ squad for the second four-day game against India ‘A’ as part of his plan to get back to playing. This is a big step for him to get ready for the home Test series against India in November.
Temba Bavuma had to miss South Africa’s current Tests against Pakistan because of a calf muscle injury he got while on the white-ball tour of England.
Now, Temba Bavuma is set to play in the second red-ball match at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru from November 6 to 9.

The ‘A’ tour kicks off with the first four-day game (October 30-November 2). The team leaves Johannesburg on October 25. Marques Ackerman will be the captain for both the four-day and the upcoming 50-over matches. Malibongwe Maketa will coach the four-day side, and Wandile Gwavu will coach the 50-over team.
After the four-day matches, the two teams will play a three-match 50-over series in Rajkot from November 13-19. Spinner Kyle Simmonds is new to the ‘A’ four-day squad, and all-rounder Delano Potgieter is new to the 50-over squad. The one-day team also includes current Proteas players like Ottniel Baartman, Bjorn Fortuin, and Kwena Maphaka.
South Africa ‘A’ feels ready for the challenge in India, saying that playing in the subcontinent will be a “good test” and will help show how much their ability to play and bowl spin has improved. The team is coming off a good series at home against New Zealand ‘A’.
