In a historic moment for Indian sports, Randhir Singh, a veteran sports administrator, has been elected as the President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) during the 44th General Assembly of the continental body in New Delhi. This is a remarkable achievement for India, as Randhir becomes the first Indian to hold this prestigious position.

A five-time Olympic shooter, Randhir’s impressive career in sports administration has spanned over several decades. He was the lone eligible candidate for the OCA president’s post and was elected unanimously, with his tenure set to run from 2024 to 2028.

Randhir’s journey to the top began when he took over as the Acting President of OCA in 2021, following the suspension of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah due to ethics breaches. His impressive leadership skills and extensive experience in sports administration have earned him the respect of his peers and made him an ideal candidate for the top post.

Born in Patiala, Punjab, Randhir comes from a family of sportspersons. His uncle, Maharaja Yadavindra Singh, played Test cricket for India and was an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member.

Randhir’s father, Bhalindra Singh, was also a first-class cricketer and served as an IOC member from 1947 to 1992. Randhir himself was a member of the IOC from 2001 to 2014 and continued as an honorary member after his term ended.
