Mumbai Indians have suffered a major setback in the middle of the tournament. Fast bowler Jofra Archer’s fitness concern did not end and hence he will return to his home for rehab.
In this way Jofra Archer is out of the remaining IPL. Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians have signed English all-rounder Chris Jordan as a replacement for Jofra Archer.
Jordan made his IPL debut in 2016 and has so far taken 27 wickets in 28 matches. The fast bowler has taken 96 wickets in 87 T20I Internationals. Mumbai Indians have signed Chris Jordan for his base price of Rs 2 crore.
Mumbai Indians said in an official release, “The ECB is constantly monitoring the recovery and fitness of Jofra Archer. The fast bowler will return home to focus on his rehab.”
Remember that Jofra Archer was bought by Mumbai Indians in the mega auction of IPL 2022 for Rs 8 crore. Jofra Archer was injured then, but he was bought keeping IPL 2023 in mind.
Jofra Archer played 5 matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023, taking only two wickets. He spent runs with an economy of 9.50. If we look at Archer’s overall IPL career, he has taken 48 wickets in 40 matches.

The effect of lack of veteran fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer is clearly visible on the performance of Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians have played 10 matches so far in the current IPL, in which they have won five and are stuck at the eighth position in the points table. Mumbai Indians will play their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
