UNLUCKY XI OF THIS GENERATION :
Here we take a look at XI players who were talented and could have been stalwarts for their respective nations but were unlucky in some way or the other to not take their game to the next level
1) MURALI VIJAY :
Popularly known as “The Monk” Murali Vijay is one of those unlucky players who despite being a regular in India’s Test team couldn’t do justice to his potential. He was a very good test opener and a potentially good LOI opener but inconsistent performances and excess competition caused his downfall
2) HASEEB HAMEED :
The youngest English opener to make his debut Haseen Hameed was all set to become a regular In the Test team after his debut series against India but injuries and then a few inconsistent county seasons so him go off the radar
3)SHAUN MARSH :
The Aussie batsman from Western Australia is someone who was considered to be the next big thing in Australian cricket however due to constant injuries an inconsistent run off late so him getting the Axe from the Australian team.
4)DAWID MALAN:
Arguably the most unluckiest player in the English side malan started his T20I career like a Virat Kohli and had a sensational Ashes down under in 2017/18. Although he no longer plays the longest version of the game he’s still a part of the T20I set up .The issue is despite being so good he dosen’t have a fixed spot
5)FAWAD ALAM :
One of the run machines of Pakistan’s domestic circuit Fawad Alam despite being so good just can’t find a place in Pakistan’s side despite them not Having too many star batsmen except Babar Azam
6)MOISES HENRIQUES(C) :
The captain of the BBL winning franchise Moises Henriques despite scoring a 50 in his last T20I match isn’t a regular feature in the Australian side. He has huge demand in various T20 leagues as well
7) WRIDDIMAN SAHA(WK) :
Hailed as the Best wicket keeper in the world by Harbhajan Singh W.Saha despite being one of the best wicket keepers in the Test arena was always under the shadows of MSD .Post his retirement Saha scored 3 centuries including 2 overseas centuries with the bat only to lose his spot to Rishabh Pant a year later
8)CJ ANDERSON :
IPL fans might remember him for his inhuman knock which helped MI qualify for the playoffs out of nowhere in 2014 and cricket fans might remember him as the once fastest ODI centurion. CJ Anderson was all set to become the next big thing in cricket however constant injuries saw him not living up to his potential
9) AKILA DANANJAYA :
The mystery spinner of Sri Lanka Akila Dananjaya was their superstar untill he got reported in 2018 for a suspect bowling action.After a remodelled action he made a comeback only to be reported again .He was then banned for 12 months. It is yet to be seen if he can make a comeback and if he does would he still remain as effective as he was before?
10) AMIT MISHRA :
Arguably India’s unluckiest player and despite winning the man of the match and the man of the series award the last time he was never again considered due to the abundance of spinners in India in the form of Ashwin,Jadeja,Kuldeep,Chahal and Washington Sundar. However he has performed well whenever given an opportunity
11) NATHAN COULTER – NILE :
Despite once being a regular and considered to be world class at one stage Coulter – Nile has always found it difficult to be a regular in the XI because of the Starc,Cummins and Hazlewood trio, injuries haven’t helped his cause either
