New Zealand batsman Glenn Phillips heaped praise on Suryakumar Yadav, saying on Saturday that he could not even dream of playing shots like the Indian legend.
Suryakumar Yadav is the world’s top batsman in the T20I rankings and when the Indian team takes on the ‘Bay Oval’ ground here against New Zealand, it will be a challenge to stop Glenn Phillips.
Glenn Phillips has scored a century in 46 balls on this ground and he is recognized as an aggressive batsman.
Phillips told stuff.co.nz that ‘Suryakumar Yadav is absolutely unbelievable. The things he does, I can’t even dream of doing. I would love to try but my game is very different from his. The ability to hit sixes with wrist power makes him special. You rarely see talent like that.’
Phillips said that the way he and Suryakumar Yadav play, the opposition bowlers also get more chances to take wickets.
He said that I have my strength and he has his strength and we do our work in different ways. The way we both play, it also gives the opposition a chance to get us out. It is part of the risk and reward of T20I.
Suryakumar has scored 1040 runs in T20I International cricket in this calendar year at an average of 43 and an impressive strike-rate of 186. He is the world’s top run scorer in this format this year. Phillips is eighth in the ICC batsmen’s list. He has scored 650 runs during this period at a strike rate of over 158.
Suryakumar Yadav is also the first batsman from India to score 1000 runs in a calendar year in T20I International cricket.
