On the evening of 15 August 2020, former captain of the Indian team Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket. His fans were surprised by this, his Instagram post broke the hearts of crores of fans.
Although, it was bound to happen one day, but the most surprising thing was that soon after MS Dhoni, when left-handed batsman Suresh Raina also announced his retirement. Now Suresh Raina has made another disclosure about MS Dhoni.
Just 30 minutes after MS Dhoni’s retirement, Suresh Raina announced his retirement at the age of 33. Though both played for Chennai Super Kings, Raina later went unsold in the auction and retired from Indian cricket.
Raina last played an ODI for India in 2018, while Dhoni last appeared in international cricket in 2019. Raina has now told about retirement why he did it.
Suresh Raina told Sports Tak, “We played so many matches together. I was lucky to play with him for India and CSK. We got a lot of love. I come from Ghaziabad, Dhoni from Ranchi, I admired MS Dhoni. Then I played for the country, that’s the connection. We’ve played so many finals, we’ve won the World Cup. He’s a great leader and a great human being.”
Suresh Raina, who last played in the IPL in 2021, also decided to pull out of the league as he was released by CSK ahead of the 2022 auction and registered his name for the IPL mega auction, where he found no takers.
His base price was 2 crores. In such a situation, he took farewell from Indian cricket. He can now play in foreign leagues.
