Shakib Al Hasan, the former Bangladesh captain and star allrounder, has been fined 10% of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching its code of conduct during the recent Rawalpindi Test against Pakistan. The incident occurred on Day 5 of the first Test, which Bangladesh won by a historic 10-wickets.
Shakib was seen throwing the ball at Pakistan batter Mohammad Rizwan in frustration after being forced to pull out midway through his run-up due to Rizwan not being ready. The on-field umpire, Richard Kettleborough, had a word with Shakib about the incident.
In addition to the fine, Shakib Al Hasan has also been handed a demerit point for the offense. According to the ICCÂ release, Shakib’s action was deemed inappropriate and/or dangerous under Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
Despite the breach, Shakib Al Hasan’s performance on the field was impressive, taking four wickets in the match including three in Pakistan’s second innings. His efforts contributed to Bangladesh’s 10-wicket win, which was a historic achievement considering their past struggles overseas.
