SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) delivered a commanding all-round performance to hand Rajasthan Royals their first defeat of IPL 2026, winning by a comprehensive 57-run margin. The victory was defined by a stunning new-ball spell from debutants and a captain’s knock that powered Sunrisers Hyderabad to a formidable total.

Kishan leads from the front

After being put into bat, SRH posted an imposing 216/6, largely driven by a sensational innings from skipper Ishan Kishan. His 91 off 44 balls was a perfect blend of aggression and control. Despite losing Abhishek Sharma early—who endured yet another duck—SRH found stability through Kishan’s composure.

The innings initially progressed cautiously as Rajasthan’s pace attack, led by Jofra Archer, extracted bounce and movement. However, once the initial burst subsided, Kishan shifted gears. He began targeting the change bowlers, dismantling the likes of Sandeep Sharma and Tushar Deshpande with calculated aggression.

Middle overs momentum

Kishan found an able partner in Heinrich Klaasen, and together they stitched a rapid 88-run partnership off just 39 deliveries. Their stand completely shifted momentum in SRH’s favor, turning a steady start into a dominant middle-overs surge.

Kishan’s shot-making stood out, particularly his ability to find gaps and clear boundaries with ease. He came close to a well-deserved century but fell for 91, leaving behind a platform that SRH capitalized on effectively.

Late flourish boosts total

After the dismissals of Kishan and Klaasen, Rajasthan attempted to regain control, but SRH’s lower order had other plans. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Salil Arora provided the finishing touches with quickfire cameos, ensuring the run rate never dipped.

Aided by some wayward bowling at the death—where Rajasthan conceded a flurry of extras—SRH surged past the 200-mark comfortably. The final total of 216/6 proved more than sufficient, especially given what followed.

Historic debut destroys RR

If Kishan’s innings set up the game, it was the extraordinary new-ball spell from debutant Praful Hinge that effectively sealed it. In a dream start to his IPL career, Hinge picked up three wickets in his very first over—an unprecedented feat in the tournament’s history.

He dismantled Rajasthan’s top order within minutes, removing key batters and leaving them in complete disarray. Partnering him was fellow debutant Saqib Hussain, who added to the carnage by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal soon after.

By the end of the third over, Rajasthan were reeling at 9 for 5—a collapse that effectively ended the contest. The combined figures of the two debutants underlined their dominance, with both playing a pivotal role in breaking the backbone of the chase.

Resistance from Ferreira and Jadeja

Despite the catastrophic start, Rajasthan Royals found some resistance through Donovan Ferreira and Ravindra Jadeja. The duo stitched together a 118-run partnership, attempting to revive the chase and restore some respectability.

Ferreira, in particular, showed attacking intent with his 69 off 44 balls, while Jadeja anchored the innings with a steady 45. Their partnership briefly raised hopes of an unlikely comeback, especially as they kept the required rate within a manageable range for a period.

However, the early damage proved too severe to overcome. With the required run rate climbing steadily, the pressure eventually got to Rajasthan.

Final blows end the chase

The breakthrough came when Saqib Hussain returned to dismiss Ferreira with a well-disguised slower delivery. Soon after, Jadeja fell following a successful review, effectively ending Rajasthan’s resistance.

From there on, it was only a matter of time before the innings folded. Rajasthan were eventually bowled out for 159, falling well short of the target.

A complete team performance

This victory highlighted SRH’s strength as a balanced unit. From Kishan’s leadership and batting brilliance to the fearless impact of debutants, every aspect of their game clicked perfectly.

For Rajasthan Royals, the loss exposed vulnerabilities in their top order and an over-reliance on recovery partnerships. Their unbeaten run came to an abrupt halt, reminding them of the fine margins in T20 cricket.

What lies ahead

With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad gain significant momentum and confidence as they prepare for upcoming challenges. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals will look to regroup and address their top-order inconsistencies before their next fixture.

In a tournament defined by unpredictability, this match served as a powerful reminder: one inspired performance—especially from unexpected sources—can change everything.
