In a stunning display of skill and determination, Sanju Samson marked his arrival on the international stage with a scintillating century during the third ODI against South Africa at Boland Park, Paarl. Despite being excluded from India’s ODI World Cup squad earlier in the year, Samson showcased his prowess at the crucial number 3 position, a role he often fulfills in domestic and IPL cricket.

India, facing a series decider, implemented strategic changes to their playing XI, elevating Samson to the pivotal batting slot. The wicketkeeper-batsman seized the opportunity, playing sensibly and crafting a masterful innings that contributed significantly to India’s competitive total.

Following a faltering start from the openers, Samson formed a crucial 52-run partnership with skipper KL Rahul for the third wicket. However, Rahul’s departure for 28 brought about a partnership shift as Samson then joined forces with young talent Tilak Verma. Together, they orchestrated a commendable 116-run stand for the fourth wicket, steering India into a favorable position in the series decider.

Samson’s maiden ODI century, a remarkable 108-run knock, featured six boundaries and three towering sixes. Despite making his international debut in 2015, consistent opportunities eluded him, given the presence of the legendary MS Dhoni as the primary wicketkeeper-batsman for India at that time. Although Samson made his ODI debut in 2021, securing a permanent spot in the squad remained elusive.

However, Thursday’s innings is poised to be a game-changer for Samson, offering a much-needed boost to his career. The stylish batter’s celebration, marked by a display of flexed muscles, resonated not only on the field but also across the internet, where fans showered accolades on the flamboyant cricketer.
