The Indian cricket team is currently on a tour of the Caribbean, where they are competing against West Indies in a five-match T20I series. In the first match of the series, they faced a defeat against Men in Blue.
The second T20I of the series is scheduled to take place in Guyana today. Amidst the ongoing series, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has confirmed his availability for the 2024 T20I World Cup.
Scheduled to be held in June 2024, the T20I World Cup will see matches being played in the USA and the West Indies. During a launching event in California, Rohit Sharma expressed his excitement about the tournament being hosted in the USA and stated that Team India is eager to participate. His statement indicates that he will be playing a crucial role in the mega tournament.

Rohit Sharma highlighted that apart from the joy of visiting and experiencing the USA, another reason for his interest in coming to the country is the upcoming T20I World Cup. He expressed his confidence that everyone is enthusiastic about the tournament and is looking forward to it.
Considering the upcoming T20I World Cup, the responsibility of leadership has been assigned to Hardik Pandya. Due to Hardik’s captaincy role in the T20I format, Rohit Sharma’s captaincy responsibilities have been limited to longer formats. He last led the Indian team in a T20I match against England in November last year.
In preparation for the 2024 tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli some rest as they plan to make changes to the setup. Rohit Sharma’s performance in IPL 2023 was disappointing, as he managed only 332 runs in 16 matches at an average of 20.75.
Nonetheless, the focus of the Indian team will now be on the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023, after the multi-format series against West Indies.
