With Gautam Gambhir set to leave Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to become India’s head coach, the franchise is on the hunt for a new mentor to fill the void. And, according to reports, none other than cricketing legend Rahul Dravid is being considered for the role. As KKR weighs its options, it’s clear that Dravid would be an excellent fit for the position.

Dravid’s experience and expertise make him a highly attractive proposition for any franchise, and his availability for just 2-3 months a year in the Indian Premier League (IPL) could be a major draw for KKR. As a seasoned coach and mentor, Dravid has already worked with IPL franchises in the past, including a stint as the coach of Delhi Daredevils before leaving in 2017 due to concerns over conflict of interest.

KKR

KKR’s decision to approach Dravid is no surprise, given their reliance on Gambhir’s guidance during their IPL 2024 title-winning campaign. With Dravid at the helm, the franchise would be gaining a valuable asset, considering his impressive credentials and wealth of experience in Indian cricket. The fact that other IPL franchises are also keen to hire him as coach or mentor only adds to his appeal.

As India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 title, Dravid joked about being “jobless” from next month, prompting speculation about his future plans. With his commitment to spending more time with his family and avoiding 10 months of annual travel with the Indian team, the IPL presents an attractive opportunity for Dravid to maintain a balance between his professional and personal life.

As KKR considers its options, it’s clear that Dravid would bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. His ability to guide and mentor young players would be invaluable, and his experience in Indian cricket would be a major asset.

Whether or not he accepts the offer remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – KKR would be gaining a world-class mentor in Rahul Dravid if they succeed in luring him away from other suitors.
