Jonny Bairstow scored the first-century for the visitors in its seventh innings this series. England were down to 36-4 by lunch before the England middle-order rescued the innings from a collapse on the rain-affected day 3 at the SCG.
At stumps, Bairstow was still on the crease having being scored 103 and Jack Leach on four, while England trail Australia by 158 runs. Ben Stokes scored 66 off 91 balls and had a partnership of 128 runs with the centurion Jonny Bairstow which Nathan Lyon broke by trapping Stokes lbw with a ball that remained low than the expectations of Ben Stokes.

After Jos Buttler got out on duck, England was down to 173-6 and also in danger of not avoiding the follow-on target of 218. But again Bairstow, this time along with Mark Wood had a 72-run partnership to avoid the follow on but Pat Cummins got the breakthrough of Mark Wood before the stumps on Day 3.
