India’s star wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan has refused to play Duleep Trophy. East Zone had sent the offer to Ishan Kishan. However, the reason why Ishan Kishan has declined the offer is yet to be confirmed. Let us tell you that Ishan Kishan was selected in the Indian team for the World Test Championship final, but he did not get a place in the playing XI.
It may be noted that the Duleep Trophy has been organized before the West Indies tour of India. West Indies will play a two-Test series from 12 July. Earlier, the BCCI has organized the domestic tournament Duleep Trophy. Teams are being announced for this. On Wednesday, East Zone announced the team.
Speaking to PTI, a member of the East Zone selection committee said, “He was in India’s squad for the WTC final. We asked Debashish Chakraborty, the convenor of the zonal selection committee, if we could select Kishan. Contacted Ishan on the phone and came back and told us that he is not interested in playing Duleep Trophy. We were not told whether he is injured or doesn’t want to play for any other reason. Just that he doesn’t want to play.”
Tripura selector Jayant Dey also approached Wriddhiman Saha after Ishan Kishan declined. Wriddhiman Saha refused saying that Duleep Trophy is for the better future of the youth and does not want to snatch the opportunity of any youth. Due to this, Abhishek Porel has been included in the team.
