The IPL 2022 has managed to grab the headlines before even starting. One of the major reasons for that is the IPL-2022 Retention Policy. The IPL 2022 retention policy is already out. To the much surprise of everyone, the Right To Match (RTM) cards won’t be available this time. The IPL 2022 retention policy is as straight as it can get this time around.

What is the IPL-2022 Retention Policy?

The 8 exciting IPL franchises can retain a maximum of not more than four players and the two new teams will be able to acquire three players from the rest of the player pool through a “Special Pick” before the 2022 auction. The composition of these 4 players for the 8 old teams include either two Indian players and two overseas players or even three Indian players and one overseas player. The IPL 2020 retention policy however, does allow a franchise to retain less than 4 players as well.

As the IPL 2022 retention policy is now out, what will be the plans of the defending champions i.e. the Chennai Super Kings? What are their retention plans? Which players are they going to retain?

Today we shall be taking a look at the players the Chennai Super Kings would most likely retain as the IPL 2022 retention policy is now out.

1) MS Dhoni:

MS Dhoni is the heart and soul of the franchise. He has been the face of CSK for quite a while now. Moreover, his impact as a player as well as brand is unmatched. Thus, MS Dhoni is the first player who the defending champions would consider retaining irrespective of his current form. Besides, the “Thala” doesn’t seem to have any plans to retire from the IPL anytime soon. Thus, they can build a new team around him.

Henceforth, MS Dhoni looks set to be the 1st IPL-2022 Retention for the Yellow Army.

2) Ravindra Jadeja:

The southpaw has been an absolute asset to the franchise ever since he started playing for them in 2012. His abilities are commendable to say the least. Besides, what he brings to the table is absolute gold. Bowling, batting fielding….Is there anything he can’t do? Add to that the fact that he has improved his skills to play the limited-over formats of the game. Last but not the least, he is in the form of his life of late.

So, Ravindra Jadeja looks set to be the 2nd IPL-2022 Retention for the Yellow Army.

3) Ruturaj Gaikwad:

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been one of the most talented youngsters going around. He has been an absolute revolution for the Chennai Super Kings. He also won the orange cap in the recently concluded IPL 2021. Not retaining him will be a brain fade by the team as he is not only someone who can be one of their key players but he is also someone who CSK can invest for the future. Besides, as he is still a young gun, retaining him gives CSK the luxury to save a few bucks and invest them during the mega auctions of IPL 2022.

Henceforth, Ruturaj looks set to be the 3rd IPL-2022 Retention for the Yellow Army.

4) Faf Du Plessis:

The 37-year-old carried his good form into the IPL 2021 as well. Despite not being in the Proteas squad for the T20 WC, he has been a vital cog for the Super Kings for a really long time. The former Proteas captain has silently gone about scoring runs for the Super Kings.

Du Plessis finished only two runs short of the orange cap in this season. He scored 633 runs from his 16 innings at an average of 45.21 and strike-rate of 138.20. Du Plessis made as many as six half-centuries in the IPL 2021 as well, this includes an extremely crucial knock of 86 in the all important final in Dubai against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) which enabled CSK to win their fourth IPL title.

Indeed, Faf Du Plessis might pip someone like Sam Currant and Dwane Bravo to get the 4th card for  IPL-2022 Retention for the Yellow Army.
