Legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar has revealed the main reason behind getting MS Dhoni’s autograph on his shirt during CSK’s lap of honor at Chepauk on May 13. Gavaskar interrupting MS Dhoni for an autograph after the IPL 2023 final match at Super Kings’ home ground MA Chidambaram Stadium is one of the most memorable moments of the league.
Speaking to Star Sports Studio, Sunil Gavaskar said that when I came to know that Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni were going to do a lap of honor at Chepauk, I decided to make the occasion a memorable one. So I ran towards Dhoni to get his autograph. This was CSK’s last home match at Chepauk.
If CSK qualifies for the playoffs, they will definitely get a chance to play here again, but I decided to make the moment special. I was fortunate that someone in the camera unit had a marker pen. So I am also grateful to that person for giving me the marker.
Hours later, in the Star Sports studio, Gavaskar praised Dhoni for his gesture and the CSK captain for his contribution to Indian cricket. He said that it was very nice of me to accept this from Dhoni.

Gavaskar further said with moist eyes that it was a very emotional moment for me, because this fellow (Dhoni) has contributed a lot to Indian cricket. Meanwhile Gavaskar revealed two of the most special moments from cricket which he will cherish for the rest of his life.
Gavaskar recalled when Kapil Dev lifted the World Cup trophy in 1983 and when MS Dhoni hit the winning six in the 2011 World Cup final. Gavaskar said that these are two such cricketing moments that I would like to see before I die.
