Once again India became successful in breaching the opponent’s fortress. India became the first Asian team to beat South Africa in Centurion.  South Africa started well on day 5, not lost the wicket within the first hour of the 1st session. R Ashwin took the last two wickets in two consecutive balls to wrap up the match in favour of India.  India defeated the Proteas by 113 runs and lead the 3 match series by 1-0.  KL Rahul was adjusted the man of the match for his  phenomenal knock.

Pert Scorchers-Melbourne Stars match postponed due to Covid-19 case

The Big Bash League match between Melbourne Stars and Perth scorchers on 30th December has been postponed due to Covid-19 case within the Melbourne Stars camp. The support staff of the Melbourne Stars has been found positive just before the  game. All the other members of the team have been tested and  waiting for the result. Due to this is the match did not took place on Thursday. This is the first time when Covid-19 case has hit the Australian cricket. The match has been postponed and will be played later this season. No new dates have been announced by the cricket Australia.

Ross Taylor to retire from international cricket

On Thursday, Ross Taylor announced retirement from international cricket.  This summer will be his last season for the Kiwis. The test series starting from Saturday against Bangladesh will be his last outing for the New Zealand in test cricket. He will play a his last ODI series against  Netherlands in March. He has been the mainstay for the kiwis in the batting line up since his debut back in 2006. He has the record for most runs (18,047) and most appearances (445) for the New Zealand.

“It’s been an amazing journey and I feel incredibly fortunate to have represented my country for as long as I have,” he said.

Quinton de Kock announces sudden retirement from Tests

Quinton de Kock has announced a sudden retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect “to spend more time with his growing family”. de Kock was due to miss the second and third Tests against India on paternity leave but has decided to step away from the longest format entirely. He remains available to play white-ball cricket for South Africa.

COVID-19 hit Ashes : Refree Boon and England Head Coach Silverwood to miss fourth Test

Match referee David Boon has been tested positive for covid-19 and will be unavailable for the 4th Ashes test in Sydney as announced by the cricket Australia on Thursday. He has fully vaccinated but unfortunately has been found positive.  He will be replaced the Steve Bernard. Boon will be in quarantine for the next ten days and will be available for the 5th Ashes test starting from January 14.

England head coach, Chris Silverwood will also miss the 4th Ashes test in Sydney after his relative found covid positive as announced by the England and Wales cricket board on Thursday. He will be kept in isolation for 10 days. The fourth Ashes test will began from Tuesday and Australia have already captured the series by 3-0.

Sri Lanka to host Zimbabwe for three ODIs in January 2022

Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka are set to begin their new year 2022 with three ODIs as part of the ICC Super League. Sri Lanka will be hosting the series. The three games of the series are scheduled for January 16, 18 and 21, and will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

Zimbabwe is currently at the bottom of the Super League table with just two wins from a total of nine games, while on the other hand the hosts, Sri Lanka are in the sixth position with 4 wins from 15 games. The Super League is the qualifier to the 2023 ODI World Cup, the top eight teams will be qualifying directly, while the remaining 5 will be pooled with five Associate teams in a qualifying tournament. Two teams will go through to the World Cup 2023 from that tournament. India has automatically qualified as hosts, effectively making the Super League a battle for the next seven spots.

Zimbabwe are currently tied on 25 points with the Netherlands, but have played five matches fewer.

USA-Ireland ODI series canceled due to Covid-19 outbreak

The ODI series between the hosts United States and Ireland was canceled after members of the touring staff tested positive for COVID-19, the two boards announced on Tuesday. The first game of the three-match series had already been canceled, and the second one-day international which was put back a day, after Covid-19 cases were detected among the umpiring team and members of the US squad. The second and third games were due to take place on Wednesday and Thursday.

“While all players in both current playing squads have returned negative COVID results overnight, two members of the Irish support staff have tested positive, as well as several partners of players, resulting in two of the Irish players being deemed as ‘close contacts’,” the two boards said in a statement.
