CSK

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are set to examine allegations of corruption and the alleged leaking of confidential team information after a recent undercover investigation raised questions about activities connected to the franchise.

The CSK board is expected to meet ahead of the team’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 25, with the matter likely to be discussed in detail. The franchise has reiterated its zero-tolerance approach towards corruption and said appropriate steps would be taken after examining the available information.

However, the allegations have not been established by a competent authority. CSK has also described the information available so far as unverified, while the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has similarly stressed that no conclusions should be drawn before the matter is properly investigated.

Tehelka Investigation Raises Questions

The controversy stems from an investigation published by Tehelka, which featured claims made during an undercover operation involving former domestic cricketer Rachit Bhatia.

According to the investigation, Bhatia alleged that he had access to confidential information concerning a CSK player and had passed playing XI information to bookmakers during the 2025 IPL season.

The report alleged that the information was subsequently sold to London-based bookmakers. Bhatia reportedly claimed that he received Rs 60 lakh per match and had earned around Rs 3 crore from five matches.

These are claims made during the undercover investigation and have not been independently established. The identity of the alleged CSK player was also not disclosed in the report.

CSK Board to Discuss the Matter

A CSK official confirmed that the franchise’s board would take up the issue before the AGM.

“We have our Annual General Meeting coming up. Our board will meet ahead of the AGM. We will discuss the matter,” the official told Cricbuzz.

The official, who did not want to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter, also emphasized that the information currently available remains unverified.

The timing of the meeting is significant, with the CSK AGM scheduled for September 25. The board’s discussion is expected to determine what further steps the franchise may take in response to the allegations.

Allegations Also Extend to IPL 2026

The Tehelka investigation also contained claims concerning the 2026 IPL season.

According to the report, the former player claimed that he could arrange access to confidential information if his alleged source was selected by CSK at the auction. He reportedly quoted Rs 1 crore for assistance with fixing matches and claimed to offer a 90 per cent guarantee.

The alleged source, however, was not picked in the auction.

The investigation also included broader claims about access to confidential information from domestic cricket, particularly the Delhi Premier League.

DPL Allegation Adds Another Dimension

The controversy widened after the investigation linked the alleged information network to the Delhi Premier League (DPL).

Tehelka reported that information about the playing XI of Central Delhi Kings was allegedly provided before the official announcement for their August 3, 2026 match against North Delhi Strikers.

According to the investigation, the playing XI supplied by Bhatia before the match subsequently matched the officially announced team. Tehelka said the information was provided during an undercover operation.

The report also included claims about potential spot-fixing arrangements. These claims remain allegations and should not be treated as established findings.

DDCA Approaches BCCI

The developments have now prompted an official response from the Delhi cricket administration.

The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has said it contacted the BCCI after receiving information about an alleged corrupt approach involving a player during the DPL.

DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma confirmed that the association had approached the BCCI and shared the information with the relevant authorities.

At the same time, the DDCA has maintained that the allegations highlighted in the Tehelka investigation are unverified and have not been established by any competent authority.

The association has emphasized the importance of following the appropriate process before reaching conclusions about any player, franchise or individual.

Previous CSK Corruption Controversy

The latest allegations are particularly sensitive for CSK because the franchise has previously faced a major corruption-related controversy.

CSK were suspended from the IPL for two seasons after a member of their promoter group was found to have been involved in illegal betting.

The current allegations are separate, and there has been no finding establishing that the franchise or any current CSK player has committed wrongdoing.

The identity of the player allegedly connected to the information leak has not been publicly established in the investigation, making it important to distinguish between the claims contained in the expose and confirmed findings.

The immediate focus will now be on the CSK board meeting and the information presented to the franchise.

With the AGM scheduled for September 25, the board has an opportunity to examine the allegations and determine whether further internal or external investigation is required.

The DDCA’s communication with the BCCI also means the matter has moved beyond media reports and into the cricket administration’s formal channels.

For now, however, the allegations remain unverified. Any disciplinary or legal conclusions would depend on evidence gathered through the appropriate investigative processes.

CSK have stated that they maintain zero tolerance towards corruption, while the DDCA has emphasized due process. The coming days are therefore expected to provide greater clarity on the claims raised by the Tehelka investigation and whether they can be substantiated.
