The IPL 2027 auction will be held in Goa, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirming the venue for this year’s player auction.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed on Wednesday, September 23, that the auction is scheduled to take place in mid-December. While the exact date has not been officially announced, the auction could be held between December 14 and 16.
The event is expected to be a relatively small auction and is likely to be completed in a single day.
BCCI Chooses Goa for IPL Auction
The decision to bring the IPL auction back to India comes after three consecutive editions were staged overseas.
The auctions in the previous three years were held in Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi. However, the IPL Governing Council recently decided to return the event to India following requests from a majority of the league’s franchises.
Goa has now been selected as the venue for the upcoming auction, giving the franchises a domestic setting for their preparations ahead of the 2027 IPL season.
The exact hotel hosting the event has not been publicly identified, but the BCCI had specific requirements while searching for a suitable venue.
Five-Star Hotel Was a Key Requirement
The BCCI’s primary consideration was finding a five-star hotel capable of accommodating more than 100 people.
Each of the 10 IPL franchises is expected to bring sizeable delegations to the auction, including owners, coaches, analysts and other members of their respective management teams.
The venue therefore needed to provide sufficient accommodation as well as facilities suitable for hosting a major IPL event.
Goa’s selection indicates that the BCCI has found a property capable of meeting those requirements.
Auction Could Take Place Between December 14 and 16
Although the BCCI has finalised the date, it has not yet made the exact day public.
According to Saikia, the auction could take place between December 14 and December 16.
Unlike a mega auction, the upcoming event is expected to involve a comparatively smaller player pool. As a result, the BCCI expects the proceedings to be completed in one day rather than requiring a multi-day format.
The auction will be an important step for franchises as they finalise their squads for the 2027 season.

IPL Auction Returns to India
The decision to host the auction in India marks a change from the recent trend.
Over the last three years, IPL auctions have been held outside India, with Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi serving as venues.
The Governing Council’s decision to bring this year’s auction back to India followed requests from several franchises.
However, the overseas model could return soon. The next IPL mega auction is scheduled for the following year, and the event could once again be hosted outside India.
