South Africa have had a lot of problems of late, recently their wicketkeeper and key player Quinton De Kock made himself unavailable for their second game agaisnt the West Indies due to personal reasons. However, this itself is least of their worries right now.

South Africa aren’t even fielding with their best XI as of now. South Africa are playing without three T20 specialists. These superstars includes the likes of Faf Du Plessis, Imran Tahir and Chris Morris. All of them have been commendable to say the least. They have already won a lot of matches for South Africa in the recent past. However, they aren’t there in the current South Africa squqd for the ongoing T20 World Cup. What could be the reason to it? Today, let’s try to find out the answer to the question to why the likes of Faf Du Plessis, Chris Morris and Imran Tahir are not in the South Africa’s T20 WC Team?
When South Africa had announced their squad for the T20 WC, several members of the CSA had spoke about the same. They gave their reasons to why Faf Du Plessis, Chris Morris and Imran Tahir weren’t in the squad. On Faf’s absence, selection convener Victor Mptisang was quoted as saying by News 24: “Faf has got a wonderful record but we wanted to be consistent in the selection and this is the group of players we have gone with.

When you’re working with free agents, you have to come together that works for both the team and the free agents, they’re obviously attracted to various leagues and then the squad has its own requirements on how they build towards a World Cup.” The same selection convener spoke about Morris not being in the squad as well. ” “Outside that Chris made himself unavailable. Most of our engagements with Chris through his agent has said that he is unavailable for international cricket,” Were the exact words of Mptisang during the squad announcement.
Imran Tahir’s International Career all but over!
Imran Tahir’s omission was however more absurd in nature. It was totally uncalled for owing to his legacy in the shortest format of the game. Nevertheless, it was stated that South Africa have already moved on from him and have great spinners at their disposal. Apparently, it is percieved by South Africa that they don’t need him because they already have good spinners in their squad to the T20 WC.
“Imran has had a great run and is still successful but we were very confident in the current crop of spinners we are developing, we felt that they deserved the opportunity,” said the selection convener.

The Sorry State of South African Cricket Continues
However, this isn’t their loss but the loss of South Africa. Faf and Morris were in superb form during the second and first half of the tournament respectively. Faf in particular was one of the best players of the IPL 2021 and even won the trophy for his IPL franchise. South Africa however have already begun their T20 WC campaign. They have won one game and lost one game so far.
