Ahmedabad Franchise IPL-2022 News

The wait is finally over!!!! We finally have 2 new IPL teams. This Luckow and Ahmedabad IPL teams have been severely awaited by all the cricket fans. Considering the densly populated areas in Uttar Pradesh and Gujrat, one can see the emergence of the 2 new IPL teams as an absolute win. These 2 new IPL teams come with a lot of huge expectations. Even before playing their first match or even having their own squad, these 2 new teams already have a fanbase.

Despite doing the rounds on social media for a few months, the 2 new IPL teams were officially announced yesterday. The Sanjiv Goenka-led RP-SG Group as well as the PE firm CVC Capital won the two new IPL teams on offer with a record bid, taking the number of teams to 10 for the next season. The RP-SG Group bid Rs 7,090 crore and will own the Lucknow franchise. CVC Capital bid Rs 5,625 crore for the Ahmedabad team.

Thus, the 2 new IPL teams have entered the biggest T20 league with some style. However, wouldn’t it be unfair on them as all the other existing teams can retain players? How are they going to build a strong squad if they can’t get to choose their key or rather marquee players beforehand?

The Two New IPL Teams Will Get This Benefit ahead of IPL-2022 Auctions

These 2 new teams however need not worry. A recent report suggested that these 2 new IPL teams will get “Special Picks” ahead of the IPL 2022 auctions. This format is going to be the draft format. According to Cricbuzz, the number of these ‘special picks’ could range from two to four players but it will be fully dependent upon the number of retentions the eight existing existing teams will be allowed to pick. This means that these 2 new IPL teams will be allowed to pick players outside the IPL 2022 auctions.

“Sources within the BCCI and the franchises have indicated that the two teams will be able to pick a few players among those who have enrolled themselves into the auction. The exact mechanism for picking the players is being worked out but unmistakably, the players taken will be the big names and their fee will be decided mutually by the franchise and the player,” a report in Cricbuzz said.

This means that we might see a similar format as compared to 2016. Even in 2016 we saw the two new teams get s special draft in order for the special picks to pick players outside the auction pool. This is a blessing in disguise for the 2 new IPL teams as they can build there team around these players. There are already a lot of rumours regarding a few players bring shortlisted to be picked by these 2 new IPL teams ahead of the upcoming auctions.

Steve Smith And David Warner might get thier new franchise

The legendary Aussie duo of David Warner and Steve Smith are definitely on the bucket list of these new teams. Both of them won’t have a franchise to retain and thus, in all likelihood one of them can get them. It was earlier reported that a few teams have already approached David Warner and for all you know, one of these teams might want Warner to lead their side. Another option is Suresh Raina. As CSK might not retain him, he might be purchased by One of the new IPL temas. Delhi Capitals have a lot of captains in their side and can’t retain them all.

Thus, several of them would be options as well. Even a few English stars like Stokes and Morgan could be used as captains as well. An important point to be noted is the fact that Suresh Raina and Steve Smith have captained a new IPL team before. While Raina was the captain of the now defunct Gujrat Lions, Steve Smith was the captain of Rising Pune Supergiant which was ironically owned by Goenka himself. Goenka is now the owner of the Lucknow IPL team and thus, he might like to test his old formula and get back his trustworthy ally Steve Smith into the Lucknow side.

Finally thr 22-crores Populated Uttar Pradesh gets its first franchise

Besides, Uttar Pradesh is a large market and there is a lot of potential for Goenka and his Lucknow team. Goenka told ET he was delighted to be back in the IPL. “It’s a matter of great honour to be there with people like Nita Ambani, the Jindals and others. This is just the beginning, and we have to work towards making a good team and perform on pitch,” he said. ““We do power distribution in UP. It is also the third-largest market for Spencer’s Retail after West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh. Owning a team here will help us connect with consumers,” he continued.
