George Worker, a 34 years old New Zealand cricketer, has announced his retirement from professional cricket. The left-handed batter, who has spent 17 years in the sport, is set to embark on a new adventure in the investment services sector with Forsyth Barr.
Worker’s impressive career spanned multiple formats, including ODIs, T20Is, and first-class cricket. He made his international debut in 2015 and went on to play 10 ODIs and 2 T20Is for New Zealand. His most notable performance came in a T20I match against Zimbabwe in 2015, where he scored 62 off 38 balls and was awarded the Player-of-the-Match award.
In addition to his international exploits, Worker was a prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket. He amassed 6721 runs in List A games, averaging 43.64 and striking at 79.85. He also represented Auckland Aces in the Ford Trophy and played a key role in their title win in the 2021-22 season.
