All of us love biopics, don’t we? It gets even better when we watch a biopic of a cricketer as it shows the struggle and the entire story of the cricketer. As cricket fans we love to watch the story of our favorite cricketers on the big screen. All our questions pertaining to the plauer get answered when we watch their biopic. We already have two biopics which are slated to release soon. One being “83” which is suppose to be on India’s former captain Kapil Dev and the other being a biopic on Mithali Raj, India’s greatest female cricketer. So which are the best biopics on cricketers which you have seen? Today we shall be taking a look at the best biopics on cricketers.
P.S. We have not added a few movies like “Sachin: A Billion Dreams” as they come under the category of documentaries and not biopics.
1) MS Dhoni: The Untold Story
Arguably one of the best biopics of all time, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is a treat to every cricket fan. It shows the life of MS Dhoni and narrates the entire story of how a young boy from Ranchi went on to become one of the greatest cricketers of all time. It is written and directed by Neeraj Pandey. It features the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput in the role of MS Dhoni. It also consists of other famous actors such as Anupam Kher, Kiara Advani and Disha Patani. The film was released on 30 September 2016 by Fox Star Studios and received the widest release ever for a Bollywood film across 61 countries. The film received mainly positive reviews from critics.
2) AzharÂ
This film came out in the same year as MS Dhoni’s biopic. It is a biopic on India’s former captain Mohammad Azharuddin. Despite getting criticized for its fictionalised interpretation of events, it was still loved by many people. The film is produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor for Sony Pictures Networks and features Emraan Hashmi in the titular role. While the film recieved mixed reviews, Emraan Hashmi’s acting was praised by the critics. This film also had a great music album, like every other Emraan Hashmi movie.
3) Hansie
This is the only biopic which isn’t about an Indian cricketer on this list. Hansie is a movie on South Africa’s former captain Hansie Cronje. It was produced in South Africa by Global Creative Studios and directed by Regardt van den Bergh. Hansie was released on 24 September 2008 in South African cinemas and the Collectors Edition DVD on 24 November 2008. The movie depicted the rise and fall of the tarnished hero and showed a lot of insights to the fixing-scandal. The movie featured Frank Rautenbach as Hansie Cronje.
