England made a remarkable comeback in the Ashes series by defeating Australia by three wickets in the third Test match. With Australia leading the five-match series 2-1, England, under the leadership of Ben Stokes, opened their account with a victory in the Ashes series 2023 on Sunday. This win was crucial for Ben Stokes as well.

The match was played at Headingley Cricket Ground. England had a target of 251 runs to win. On the fourth day, the English team achieved the target by losing 7 wickets in 50 overs. Harry Brook played an outstanding innings for England, scoring 75 runs off 93 balls in the second innings. In addition, Chris Woakes contributed an unbeaten 32 runs off 47 balls.

With this win, Ben Stokes created history in Test cricket. He became the captain with the most number of successful chases of targets of 250 plus runs. Under Stokes’ captaincy, England has achieved this feat five times. Before Stokes, this record was held by former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India successfully chased a target of 250 or more runs on four occasions.

Ricky Ponting, the former captain of Australia, and Brian Lara, the former captain of the West Indies, are ranked third on the list. Both former captains led their teams to three successful chases of targets of 250 plus runs.

However, on the Headingley Cricket Ground, the target of 250 plus runs has been successfully chased the most times, with six instances. The ground belongs to the MCG, which has witnessed this feat seven times.
