When Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and chose to bat first against the defending Champions Chennai Super Kings, it seemed like the vast majority of the capacity crowd would get the victory they had paid to see. Knight Riders were not the favourites against Chennai SUper Kings.

Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay put on a partnership of 87 for the first wicket. Vijay fell for 42, but Hussey and Suresh Raina then added 73 more before Hussey fell for 54. There was still time for M.S. Dhoni to produce a quick cameo. Suresh Raina scoted 73 runs in 38 balls, an inning that contained 5 sixes, 191 runs on the board looked a tough score to chase on that pitch, especially in the big final of IPL-2012.

When Kolkata Knight Riders  lost their captain Gautam Gambhir in the 1st over, it looked to be even more difficult for the Knights. Due to injury of Balaji, KKR included Brett Lee in the squad and removed one foreign player from the squad which was New Zealand’s destructive batter and wicket-keeper Brendon McCullum, who was replaced by the domestic player Manvinder Bisla.

But Manvinder Bisla and Jacques Kallis had other ideas. They shared a stand of 136 for the second wicket that brought Kolkata right back into contention. Bisla made 89 off only 48 balls, including 5 sixes and 8 fours. After his departure, Kallis stood firm amidst a flurry of wickets until he got out for 69.

In a tense finish, Shakib Al Hasan and Manoj Tiwary kept their nerve, and they clinched the title with two balls to spare. Bisla’s performance earned him the Player of the Match award and he was the one high-match hero for KKR in IPL-2012 season.
