Team India’s premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin revealed a funny conversation he had with a co-passenger on a flight after the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
Ashwin said that the man expressed his disappointment at the early end of the Test in the much-anticipated series.
Ravichandran Ashwin insisted that both the Tests were not played on pitches where the match was expected to end quickly, but added that it is not right to pass any judgment on the changing mindset of batsmen in Test cricket. The Australian team was expected to give a tough fight to the hosts in India.
Australia failed in both tests –
However, the Australian batsmen surrendered in front of the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team and lost both the Tests. Australia were defeated by an innings and 132 runs in the Nagpur Test. At the same time, the visiting team got a 6-wicket defeat in the Delhi Test.

What did Ashwin said –
Ravichandran Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, ‘I felt that if we take 5 wickets in the first session, then the target of around 150-160 runs will have to be chased. This was going through my mind. Finally we were able to get them all out before the end of the first session. I met someone on the flight who asked, ‘You guys. Why did the match end in three days? I hurt.’
In his reply, Ashwin told the co-traveller that the mindset of the batsmen changes when it comes to scoring long innings or scoring quick runs. He said, ‘Sir, two things have changed. Firstly, the mentality of the cricketers. They wants to play fast cricket these days, they wants to score quick runs. These days cricketers don’t take time and go for quick runs. But because of this we cannot compare both the thinking and judge which one is better, we never compare generations.
The off-spinner further said, ‘Secondly, both the Tests should not have been completed in three days.’ Ashwin and Jadeja are in excellent form in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Both took 31 wickets together in two tests. The third Test between India and Australia will be played in Indore from March 1.
