Pakistan’s veteran cricketer took retirement at the age of 41, will now handle big responsibility

Pakistan’s veteran wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal has retired from all forms of cricket on Tuesday. Akmal’s name has been included in the national selection committee and he wants to concentrate fully on his new role. Kamran Akmal represented Pakistan till 2017.

Kamran Akmal has been dropped by Pakistan Super League franchise Peshawar Zalmi for the eighth season of the tournament. Talking to the media, Akmal informed about his decision.

Akmal said, ‘It is certain that I will not be able to play cricket anymore because of the new roles in PCB. I don’t think when you get into coaching or become a national selector, you can concentrate on playing.’

However, Akmal also said that he would try to play in the lower leagues, but it would depend on his responsibility. The 41-year-old Akmal said, “I will play in the lower leagues, but it will depend on the new responsibility given to me by the PCB.”

Kamran Akmal represented Pakistan at the international level for a long time. Akmal scored 2648 runs in 53 Tests with the help of 6 centuries and 12 half-centuries, his average was 30.79.

On the other hand, Kamran Akmal scored 3236 runs in 157 ODIs with the help of 5 centuries and 10 half-centuries. His average was 26.09. Akmal scored 987 runs in 58 T20Is Internationals with the help of five half-centuries.

He praised Babar Azam –

During this, Kamran Akmal praised the current captain of Pakistan, Babar Azam. Akmal said, Babar Azam is one of our great batsmen and my job as a selector and coach of Zalmi is to help him as captain and batsman. We have seen over the years that there is no flaw in his batting. It may be noted that the PCB announced its new senior and junior men’s selection committee earlier this week.

Haroon Rashid will head the senior committee and Kamran Akmal the junior committee. Former Test players Kamran Akmal, Yasir Hameed and Mohammad Shami have been included in the senior committee.

On the other hand, Tauseef Ahmed, Arshad Khan, Shahid Nazir and Shoaib Khan have been included in the junior committee. This is the first time that Kamran, Yasir and Sami have been appointed as national selectors.
