The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to appoint VVS Laxman as the next head coach of the Indian team after Rahul Dravid’s contract expires.
Rahul Dravid’s tenure will last till the 2023 ODI World Cup. A report in News18 CricketNext stated that Dravid should not consider an extension as the head coach of the men’s team. At the same time, Laxman, currently the head of cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, could be made the next head coach.
In Dravid’s absence, 48-year-old Laxman was appointed as the head coach of the Indian team. He was with the team for the bilateral series against Ireland as well as the first T20I against England and the tour of Zimbabwe in June 2022.
Laxman has been the coach on many occasions –
when Dravid was corona infected, he was also with the Indian team for the 2022 season of T20I Asia Cup in UAE. Soon after, he traveled to New Zealand as the team’s head coach for their white-ball tour. The T20I World Cup ended in November 2022.

Apart from grooming the next generation of players at the NCA, Laxman also traveled with the India U-19 team for their successful 2022 World Cup and also worked with the youth team during their campaign in the West Indies he took a very active role.
When asked about the possibility of split coaching in the team, a senior BCCI official said that there will be no split coaching for now.
Dravid has taken over as the head coach from Ravi Shastri. The Indian team lost to England in the semi-finals of the T20I World Cup and failed to reach the final of the 2022 T20I Asia Cup apart from losing the Test and ODI series in South Africa and losing to England in the fifth Test in Birmingham.
