South Africa was 17/1 at stumps in response to India’s score of 223 all-out in the first innings on Day 1 of the decider third Test on Tuesday. South African Opener Aiden Markram and night-watchman Keshav Maharaj were on the crease scoring 8 and 6, respectively, at the end of Day 1 in cape town. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed the South African skipper Dean Elgar (3) early on, giving the momentum which India will look forward to carry on Day 2.

India batted first and the returning skipper for the visitors, Virat Kohli top-scored in the first innings with a crucial 79 off 201 balls, hitting 12 boundaries and a six. Cheteshwar Pujara scored 43 and Rishabh Pant added 27 giving a bit of support to the skipper from the other end of the crease. Playing his 50th Test, Kagiso Rabada finished Day 1 with impressive figures of 4/73, while Marco Jansen snared 3/55.
