Sri Lanka batter Danushka Gunatilaka announced his retirement from the longest format of the game. He played his last test match against the kiwis way back in 2018. Currently, he was serving a ban of one year by the Sri Lanka cricket board along with his teammates Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickawella for breaching the bio bubble on the England tour in June 2021.
‘It has always been an honour to play for my country and I hope to contribute to the best of my ability in the future by continuing to represent Sri Lanka whenever I am called upon to do so’, Danushka Gunathilaka told Newswire.
This news came just after the shocking retirement announcement by his teammate, Bhanuka Rajapaksa who retires from all formats of the game. Danushka Gunathilaka has played eight Tests for Sri Lanka and scored 299 runs at an average of 18.7 since his debut vs India at Galle International Stadium, Jul 26, 2017.

On the other hand Sri Lanka Cricket lifted international ban on Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella with less than six months into suspension. They will now be eligible for selection in domestic cricket as well as for the national side. The ban was enforced by SLC following Sri Lanka’s tour of England last year, during which the trio was found to have breached bio-bubble protocols.

“The latest decision was taken following a request made by the three players to Sri Lanka Cricket to lift the ban imposed on them, pursuant to the conclusion of the LPL 2021. Based on such request, SLC obtained a report from the doctor appointed by SLC to provide counselling for the three players during their period of suspension,” an SLC media release stated.
