SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered a commanding 65-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a high-scoring encounter, handing the home side their second consecutive defeat in the Indian Premier League 2026.

Chasing a daunting target of 227, KKR faltered under pressure and were bowled out for 161 in just 16 overs. Despite a promising start, lack of partnerships and frequent wickets derailed their chase, while SRH’s aggressive batting approach proved decisive.

SRH’s Explosive Batting Sets the Tone

SRH’s innings was built on fearless intent and aggressive stroke play right from the outset. Openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma gave the visitors a dream start, stitching together a record 82-run stand in just 5.2 overs.

Head smashed 46 off 21 balls, while Abhishek was even more explosive, scoring 48 off 21 deliveries at a staggering strike rate. His assault on KKR’s spinners, particularly Varun Chakaravarthy, turned the momentum decisively in SRH’s favor during the PowerPlay.

The early blitz ensured SRH raced to 84 for 1 in the first six overs, laying the foundation for a massive total.

Klaasen Anchors the Middle Overs

Following the fiery start, SRH experienced a brief collapse, losing three wickets in quick succession. However, Heinrich Klaasen stepped up to stabilize the innings.

Klaasen played a crucial knock of 52 off 35 balls, blending aggression with composure. His innings ensured SRH maintained momentum even during the middle overs, where they added 84 runs despite losing wickets.

His ability to absorb pressure and counterattack kept the scoreboard ticking and prevented KKR from making a full comeback.

Nitish Reddy’s Late Flourish

SRH’s batting depth came to the fore in the death overs, thanks to Nitish Kumar Reddy. His quickfire 39 off 24 balls provided the finishing touch, helping SRH cross the 220 mark.

Despite another mini-collapse towards the end, SRH managed 58 runs in the final phase, finishing at an imposing 226 for 8. The total always looked above par, especially given the pressure of chasing such a big score.

KKR’s Promising Yet Flawed Start

KKR’s chase began on a contrasting note. While Ajinkya Rahane struggled to accelerate, scoring just 8 off 10 balls, Finn Allen came out blazing.

Allen smashed 28 off just 7 balls, dealing exclusively in boundaries and briefly putting SRH bowlers under pressure. His aggressive approach was complemented by young Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who carried forward the momentum.

Raghuvanshi played a brilliant knock of 52 off 29 balls, ensuring KKR reached a strong 74 for 3 in the PowerPlay. At that stage, the chase appeared within reach.

Turning Point: Run-Outs and Collapses

However, KKR’s innings unraveled due to poor decision-making and lack of partnerships. The first major setback came with a costly run-out of Cam Green at the end of the PowerPlay, triggered by a misjudgment from Raghuvanshi.

Soon after, Raghuvanshi himself fell victim to another run-out, this time due to a mix-up with Rinku Singh. These moments proved pivotal, breaking KKR’s momentum at crucial junctures.

The 46-run stand between Raghuvanshi and Rinku remained the only significant partnership of the innings. Beyond that, wickets fell at regular intervals, preventing any sustained challenge.

SRH Bowlers Seal the Deal

SRH’s bowling unit capitalized on the pressure created by the big total. Jaydev Unadkat led the attack with figures of 3 for 21, while Eshan Malinga impressed with 2 for 14.

Nitish Kumar Reddy also contributed with the ball, picking up two key wickets, including that of Rinku Singh. The disciplined bowling ensured KKR never regained control of the chase.

KKR eventually collapsed to 161 in 16 overs, leaving four overs unused—a clear indication of how quickly things spiraled out of control.

Key Match Phases

  • PowerPlay: SRH dominated with 84/1, while KKR managed 74/3
  • Middle Overs: Both teams scored at similar rates, but KKR lost more wickets
  • Death Overs: SRH added crucial runs, while KKR completely collapsed

The stark difference in execution during crucial phases ultimately decided the outcome.

What Lies Ahead

SRH will now return home with momentum on their side and face Lucknow Super Giants on April 5. With their batting firing on all cylinders, they will look to build on this dominant performance.

KKR, on the other hand, will aim to regroup before hosting Punjab Kings on April 6. Addressing their middle-order fragility and improving on-field communication will be key areas of focus.
