A special moment in cricket history happened on November 6 in Bali. For the first time ever, a father and his son played together in the same men’s international cricket match for a national team Timor-Leste.
The pair was Suhail Sattar, 50, and his 17-year-old son, Yahya Suhail. They both played for the Timor-Leste national team in its very first international game against Indonesia.
During the match, the father and son even got to bat together. Sattar scored 14 runs. His son, Yahya, hit a six off the only ball he faced.

While this is the first father-son duo, they aren’t the first parent and child to play together. Earlier this year, a mother and daughter, Metty Fernandes and Naina Metty Saju, played six matches together for the Switzerland women’s team.
It is very rare to see fathers and sons play on the same team. In domestic cricket, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and his son Tagenarine played 11 games together for their team in Guyana. In 2025, Afghanistan’s star Mohammad Nabi even played against his son in a tournament final.

This historic day for the Sattar family came during a tough start for their team. As Timor-Leste fields its new team, they have found international cricket to be very hard. The team lost its first three games by 10 wickets, meaning they have a lot to learn as they start their journey in the sport.
