Devansh Awasthi, our founding member and CEO had interviewed Dave Cameron. Whycliffe “Dave” Cameron is the former president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Inc. He was elected the 18th president of the WICB in March 2013. He is also one of the leading contenders to become the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman. He was very open in this interview and he spoke about his personal life as a cricketer and a cricket administrator. He spoke about the relationship between Indian cricket and West Indies cricket and about how Indians love and respect West Indies culture and cricket. He also spoke about his personal favorites and his perception and thoughts about Indian cricket. “Anil Kumble was lucky that he never had to bowl to Sachin Tendulkar” he said. According to him Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli were the greatest Indian batsman of all time. Below are some of the other questions asked by Devansh and the answers answered by Dave Cameron are as follows.
Devansh: So tell through your journey as a cricketer right from our childhood. How did you become a cricketer?
Cameron: Well I attended Clan Carthy primary school in Jamaica and since then became a cricketer. I then went on to play club cricket.
Devansh: Oh wonderful!!!!! Now moving forward to my next question, Throw some light on your career as a cricketer?
Cameron: Well my career as a cricketer was quite short. I played U-19 cricket for Jamaica and post that never got selected. So I keep telling myself that I should have selected I should have got selected.
Devansh: Ok, moving forward to my next question, you are one of the front runners for the post of the ICC chairman for which we wish you best of luck again, So what do you think you will add once your tenure starts?
Cameron: Well cricket currently is played among 104 odd countries or so. I’d like to expand the sport. We need to find a formula to make the sport bigger so that we can call it a global sport. Hence I would like to make the sport bigger.
Dave Cameron also spoke about how cricket can become a better and bigger sport. When asked about the current performance of West Indies of late he said “West Indies under Holder and Pollard have been good and they only look to get better with time”. He also gave his views on cricket administration and said that “Sports and cricket is about organization and structure” He went on to say that WI haven’t has the best administration due to financial issues. “West Indies have lacked in organization and structure due to financial resources” he said. “However in the last few years the current youngsters have done a really good job and West Indies cricket seems to be on the rise”. He also spoke about the benefits of a good structure. He also promised Devansh to give an Interview again if he does get elected as the ICC chairman.
