In the wake of a disappointing loss against the West Indies in the fifth and final T20I match, Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid has openly addressed the concerns surrounding the team’s batting depth and provided insights into their strategy for the upcoming 2024 T20I World Cup.
The West Indies showcased their dominance, securing an impressive victory by eight wickets, thereby clinching the series 3-2.
After the challenging defeat, Coach Dravid candidly shared the management’s approach to rectifying the batting issues to reinforce the lineup’s strength. Moreover, he highlighted that the squad for the forthcoming T20I World Cup would exhibit some variations in comparison to the one fielded against the West Indies.
Dravid stated,
“Our squad (for the World Cup) will be a little different to what we have here. In terms of the squad that we had here, it didn’t allow us the flexibility to have the combination to allow us to make the changes. Going forward, we will have to look at certain areas where we can get better,” as quoted by Cricbuzz.
He went on to emphasize the need to enhance batting depth without compromising the bowling attack’s potency.
“Finding depth in our batting is an area that we are trying to address and do as best as we possibly can. But that’s certainly an area that we need to look at, how we can not weaken our bowling attack but have a certain depth in our batting that can go deeper. As the game is going on, the scores are becoming bigger and bigger,” Dravid added.
Reflecting on the ODI series, Dravid shed light on the team’s strategic changes in anticipation of the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. It’s worth noting that India clinched the three-match ODI series 2-1.
“We tried to do a few things (in the ODI series) with the World Cup and the Asia Cup coming up. The goals of that (ODI series) were slightly different from what we wanted to achieve, and glad there were some important lessons from that one-day series and got the right result,” Dravid expressed.
