Rohit Sharma can be removed from ODI and T20I captaincy. Hardik Pandya will replace him. BCCI is considering it and it may be announced soon.

ANI quoted sources as claiming that the board has spoken to Pandya in the matter, but he is yet to respond. Time has been sought to take a decision.

First understand why the board chose Pandya –

Hardik captained the new team Gujarat Titans for the first time in IPL. He scored 487 runs in 15 matches at an average of 44.27. Not only this, he also scored 4 half-centuries in his innings. Also took 8 wickets. On the other hand, under his captaincy in T20, Team India won the T20I series in New Zealand and Ireland.

Rohit’s captaincy raised questions due to these 2 reasons –

First: Under the captaincy of Rohit, Team India could not perform well in T20I World Cup and Asia Cup. In the T20I World Cup in Australia, India was defeated by England in the semi-finals. Prior to this, Team India could not even make it to the top-2 in the Asia Cup. Since then there is talk of removing Rohit Sharma from the captaincy after the World Cup.

Second: BCCI had already dissolved the selection committee. In such a situation, it was believed that Rohit could also be removed from the captaincy.

Rohit replaced Virat last year –

Last year, Virat Kohli left the captaincy after the T20I World Cup. He was later dropped from the ODI captaincy. In his place, Rohit Sharma was given the responsibility of ODIs and T20s and the Test captaincy was with Virat. Later, Virat also left the Test captaincy citing personal reasons. After which Rohit became the captain of all the three formats.

BCCI sacked the senior selection committee –

The BCCI has dismissed the senior selection committee of Team India. According to the news agency, this decision was taken by the BCCI some time ago. All the selectors including former fast bowler Chetan Sharma have been removed.

Team India had to face a 10-wicket defeat at the hands of England in the semi-finals of the T20I World Cup. Since then questions were being raised on team selection.

Hardik can become captain, Hitman will continue to lead in ODIs –

After sacking Team India’s selection committee, BCCI is now eyeing T20I captain Rohit Sharma. It is being said that he can be removed from the captaincy of T20I. India lost to England by 10 wickets in the semi-finals of the T20I World Cup.

The BCCI on Thursday sacked the selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma. Apart from Chetan Sharma, three other selectors have also been removed from the post, applications have been called for these.
