180 Not Out Podcast ft. Harbhajan Singh

Delhi [India], May 20: Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh believes the key to restraining aggressive batting in modern-day cricket lies in bowlers’ ability to take wickets regularly. In the ongoing IPL 2024, scoring 200 runs has become common, with batsmen dominating bowlers.

Harbhajan, who played 103 Tests, 236 ODIs, and 28 T20Is for India, emphasizes that bowlers should aim for wickets even at the cost of conceding runs. He shared his insights in Episode 5 of the podcast series “180 Not Out.”

“I believe that koi bhi bowler jo kahe ki mai run rok lunga, wo run nahi rok sakta. Chahe wo Lasith Malinga ho, unse better bowler nahi hua hai koi world T20 me. Jasprit Bumrah hai wo modern-day cricket me. Jab aap wicket lete ho na, tabhi break lagti hai. Wicket lene ke liye achi bowling karni zaruri hai,” Harbhajan told Raman Raheja, a Sports Fan, Sports-preneur, Media professional and a Creator who put together this Podcast “180 Not Out”.

“Skill ke sath aap wicket le sakte ho, ye nahi ki fluke ke sath ki aapne ek wicket le li fulltoss ball upar chali gayi aur out ho gaya. Lekin wo har baar nahi hoga. Fulltoss ball chakke ke liye zyada jayegi. Economy rate tabhi theek hogi jab aap wicket lene ke liye dekhoge,” he further said.

“Aap wicket lene dekhoge to aap apna bhi kaam kar rahe ho aur team ko bhi aage badha rahe ho. That’s what I think should be the mindset. Whenever I have played any format, T20s, Tests, or ODIs, I look to take wickets. Us process me ho sakta hai ki run zyada chale jaaye, 10-12 run, but if you end up taking those 2-3 wickets or 1 important wicket, you’ve done your job. That should be the mindset. Kai baar jab ye mindset nahi hota, to bina kuch kiye maar pad jaati hai. Ye jis din theek nahi hota us din maar padti hai,” Harbhajan added.

About 180 Not Out Podcast (Previous Episodes Highlights)

The 180 Not Out podcast series by Sports-preneur Raman Raheja was also graced by former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir. The star batter expressed his views on the issue of two new balls being employed in a given match.”Two new balls in one-day cricket is probably the worst thing that can happen to one day cricket. Imagine how many finger spinners play one day cricket. There’s Nathan Lyon who’s got 400 wickets, there’s R Ashwin who’s got 400 wickets, and they are not a part of the One Day team, and the only reason is that there is nothing for a finger spinner,” said Gambhir.

“Imagine someone who has taken 400 test wickets will not play one day cricket because they don’t become a wicket taking option or they end up becoming a defensive option. Reverse Swing… It has gone out of the game completely. I want to see reverse swing, I want to see batters getting challenged, someone bowling at 150 and reversing the ball is always a challenge. One rule that needs to change is getting rid of two new balls and having only one,” he added.
