Cricket fans, get ready! The 2026 World Cup 2026 is set to light up the subcontinent from February 7 to March 8. India and Sri Lanka will co-host the mega event, which will feature 20 teams battling it out for the coveted trophy.

The World Cup 2026 is expected to have 55 matches played across at least seven venues—five in India and two in Sri Lanka. The final is tentatively scheduled for Ahmedabad or Colombo, a decision that will depend on whether Pakistan makes it to the final, given the ongoing political tensions between the two nations.

Fifteen teams have already secured their spot for this World Cup 2026. The confirmed teams are: India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, USA, West Indies, New Zealand, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, Netherlands and, for the first time ever, Italy.

The remaining five spots will be filled through regional qualifiers, with two teams from Africa and three from the Asia and East Asia Pacific regions.

The format will be familiar to those who followed the 2024 edition. The 20 teams will be split into four groups of five, with the top two from each group advancing to the Super Eights.

From there, the teams will be divided into two groups of four, and the top two from each will move on to the semifinals. India, the reigning champions after their victory against South Africa in the 2024 final, will be looking to defend their title on home soil.

The World Cup 2026 is part of a packed cricketing calendar for India. It will be followed by the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is expected to run from March 15 to May 31. This jam-packed schedule highlights India’s status as a global hub for cricket, with fans having plenty of high-octane action to look forward to in early 2026.
